‘Moulin Rouge’ @ Al Hirschfeld Theatre: NYC (3/11/23)

For Saturday evening, I had no shows planned, I lost all the lotteries, most shows were out of rush already by the afternoon, so I figured I’d try standing room for a show. I was between Moulin Rouge and Parade and something in my gut told me to try for Moulin Rouge, and thankfully I was able to get standing room! (And a good thing too, since Saturday night’s performance of Parade ended up getting canceled due to technical difficulties.)

‘Hadestown’ @ Walter Kerr Theatre: NYC (3/7/23)

On the road to Hell there was a railroad line… Another trip to the underworld to see Hadestown! When the Hadestown lottery says you win, I accept that win and go see this show again. This was my 7th time seeing it since 2019 – pretty good stats!

‘Life of Pi’ @ Schoenfeld Theatre: NYC (3/9/23)

Life of Pi performed its first preview show on March 9th and I’m happy to report I was in attendance! I truly love the energy of first preview shows and I’m very glad my friend was able to grab us rush tickets for this performance.

‘Shucked’ @ Nederlander Theatre: NYC (3/8/23)

I love a good first preview, so when I won the Shucked lottery for their first show I knew I couldn’t miss it.

I knew absolutely nothing about this show going into it other than it was about corn. That’s it. That’s the premise. And truthfully? That’s how I recommend you go into it too! If you like bad puns and dad jokes, this is the show for you.

Broadway Wrap Up: February 2023

I saw 3 Broadway shows in February! February was a busy month for me, between traveling to Atlanta for work, going to the Revelle book launch event, and seeing 3 concerts – so I didn’t see as many Broadway shows – not to mention a lot of new shows are just opening, so I expect March to be busier!

‘Bad Cinderella’ @ Imperial Theatre: NYC (2/24/23)

Bad Cinderella lives up to its name – it is, in fact, bad. And not in a good way. In a genuinely bad way and I already had very low expectations going in. I saw it during previews so I’m unsure if anything will change before it opens on March 23, 2023.

I was able to grab a digital rush ticket for $30 and figured I better see this show for myself to judge and yes, I judged. My seat was marked as “partial view” as it was off to the side, but it was also front row and right next to the stairs some actors walked in on – so I felt I had a great seat! I did miss some stuff on the right (stage left) side but nothing major as far as I could tell.

‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’ @ Lyric Theatre: NYC (February 2023)

I saw Harry Potter and the Cursed Child on Broadway 2x in February, so I’m doing a bit of a recap post combining my thoughts into one post!

I’d also like to disclaimer that JKR does *not* profit off of Cursed Child ticket sales based on research, which is why I continue to see it. I assume she still gets a flat rate fee to use the characters, similar to how Universal Studios pays her a flat rate for Harry Potter world, but similarly buying a ticket to Universal does not directly profit JKR. She will get that flat fee regardless of how many Universal tickets are bought.

‘Pictures From Home’ @ Studio 54: NYC (1/13/23)

I learned Pictures From Home would have its first preview on January 13, and when I saw TodayTix had digital rush, I knew what I had to do – and I was able to grab rush tickets for the first preview of this show!

‘Kimberly Akimbo’ @ Booth Theatre: NYC (12/22/22)

Kimberly Akimbo is a new Broadway musical I would recommend to literally everyone. This is such a feel good wholesome comedy that is also a bit heartbreaking. If you’re a fan of dysfunctional family dynamics and warm friendships, give this show a try – it would be hard to walk out of that theater without a big smile on your face (and maybe some tears in your eyes).
