Audiobook Review: ‘Sadie’

I didn’t expect to fall so in love with Sadie, but I can easily say this is one of my favorite books I’ve read in 2018. Sometimes it’s the books that aren’t hyped up a lot, you don’t hear too much about, that end up hitting the NYT Bestsellers List and end up being real gems – even if the story breaks your heart along the way.

Graphic Novel Review: ‘Spill Zone’ & ‘The Broken Vow’

While I have read my fair share of manga, I will admit I haven’t read too many America/European graphic novels, but when I saw my favorite author Scott Westerfeld was a part of this, I knew I had to pick it up – and I loved it! (If you’re a fan of Stranger Things, I think you’ll enjoy this series!)

Title: Spill Zone (Book 1) and The Broken Vow (Book 2)

Movie Review: ‘The Hate U Give’

The Hate U Give (THUG) is in theaters everywhere now! The movie was released on October 19th, 2018, and in selected theaters prior to that.

To see our book review of The Hate U Give, click here! This is a review of the movie, my thoughts, and comparing it to the book. No major spoilers will be in this review! I talk about a few points, but nothing that gives away anything major from the plot.

THUG is such an important movie. I am really hoping it does well at the box office, gets the recognition it deserves, and gets nominated for awards – the world needs to see and hear this.

If you haven’t read The Hate U Give novel, I would be curious to hear what you thought of the movie, so please leave a comment below.

I will say this adaptation was pretty accurate to the book. No book to movie adaptation will ever be exact – but this was pretty close and I loved it.

DNF Audiobook Review: ‘Shadow of the Fox’

Shadow of the Fox is a Japanese fantasy full of samurai, demons, spirits, and all the folklore! I had seen many glowing reviews of this story….and was disappointed to find myself reading what felt like filler episodes of Inuyasha. I decided to DNF this book at 50%.

Title: Shadow of the Fox
Author: Julie Kagawa
Series: Shadow of the Fox trilogy

Audiobook Review: ‘My Plain Jane’

This book is SO MUCH FUN! If you’re looking for a lighthearted comedic read, pick up this book, My Plain Jane, or the previous book by the Lady Janies (what the authors call themselves), My Lady Jane. This is a retelling of Jane Eyre….but with a twist or a hundred thrown in. It’s not the story you know.

I will preface this by saying I have never read Jane Erye and I enjoyed this story completely! You don’t need to have read My Lady Jane or Jane Eyre to enjoy this. While this is sort of part of a series, it reads as a standalone.

Title: My Plain Jane
Author: Cynthia Hand, Brodie Ashton, Jodi Meadows
Series: The Lady Janies – but reads as a standalone
Rating: 3.5/5

Audiobook Review: ‘Learn About Loss’

I’m disappointed to say that Learn About Loss is my least favorite of the stories so far. It’s forgettable and honestly feels unnecessary.

Ghosts of the Shadow Market #1 – Son of the Dawn

Spoilers for The Infernal Devices series. (This story is set in 1936.)
