Audiobook Review: ‘Vinyl Moon’

I received a physical arc of this from a YALLFest giveaway, but when I realized parts of it were told in verse, I knew I wanted to listen to it rather than read it, and I’m so glad I did.

It’s 2022 and I believe its important for us to read books about cultures and situations outside of our own and what we know. As a white reader, I always learn something by reading a book with a Black MC written by a Black author.

I’ve seen this book around for a few months now and many friends have said how much they enjoyed it, so I finally decided to give this a try – and I’m so glad I did. There was a lot of hype around this book and I’m pleased to say, it lives up to or exceeds that hype.

Blackout features 6 separate stories that are all subtlety connected about Black love – some of it queer, some of it straight, some of it…well, you’ll have to find that out for yourself.

Audiobook Review: ‘In The Ravenous Dark’

I’ve been eager to read this book since I first heard about it, and when I found out it was going to be the April 2021 Illumicrate book I was beyond excited! This is a fast paced book about magic, undead spirits bound to those with magic, and everyone is queer af. This is technically “young adult” but I would consider it “upper” YA or even adult, as there is death, violence, gore, blood, sex, cursing, etc – not for the faint of heart.

Title: In The Ravenous Dark
Author: A.M. Strickland
Series: Standalone
Genres: Fantasy, Romance, LGBTQ+

Audiobook Review: ‘The Final Revival of Opal & Nev’

You tell me a story is about music, and I’m in. You tell me the audiobook is narrated by a full cast, and I’m already in love and hooked. This is the (fictional) history of the group Opal & Nev from the 70’s, told through interviews and notes from the “editor” writing this book, and of their possible reunion in 2016. I highly recommend listening to this one!

Author: Dawnie Walton
Series: Standalone

Audiobook Review: ‘The Intimacy Experiment’

After reading a lot of intense fantasy books, I always find myself drifting towards a good romance book, and I was definitely in the mood for The Intimacy Experiment! It’s technically book 2 of The Roommate series, but you don’t need to read the first book to enjoy this one – it can be read as a standalone!

Title: The Intimacy Experiment
Author: Rosie Danan
Series: The Roommate #2
Genres: Romance

Diversity in Books: Let’s Talk Bookish

Let’s Talk Bookish is a weekly meme, hosted by Rukky @ Eternity Books & Dani @ Literary Lion, where we discuss certain topics, share our opinions, and spread the love by visiting each others’ posts.

This is my first time giving this meme a try as I felt like I would have a lot to say about this week’s topic: Diversity in Books.

Audiobook Review: ‘Concrete Rose’

I’ve read Angie Thomas’s previous two books, The Hate U Give and On The Come Up, so I was eager to read Concrete Rose – the story of Maverick Carter, father to Starr, main character of The Hate U Give. You can read this without having read The Hate U Give, but I would recommend reading it first to fully appreciate this story!

Title: Concerte Rose
Author: Angie Thomas
Series: The Hate U Give #0
Genres: Contemporary, Realistic Fiction
