‘Between The Lines’ CLOSING NIGHT @ Tony Kiser Theater: NYC (9/11/22)

Happy Trails to Between the Lines! Sunday, September 11, 2022 was the final performance of this lovely little off-Broadway show that stole my heart! I ended up seeing it 3 times, but oh how I wish I could’ve seen it more, and seen more understudies in the main roles!

You can read my reviews of previous times I saw Between the Lines here (1st time) and here (2nd time).

I’m going to try and be as honest and open in my reviews as I can. Please note these are my personal opinions and I’m always open to discussions!

Movie Review: ‘The Hate U Give’

The Hate U Give (THUG) is in theaters everywhere now! The movie was released on October 19th, 2018, and in selected theaters prior to that.

To see our book review of The Hate U Give, click here! This is a review of the movie, my thoughts, and comparing it to the book. No major spoilers will be in this review! I talk about a few points, but nothing that gives away anything major from the plot.

THUG is such an important movie. I am really hoping it does well at the box office, gets the recognition it deserves, and gets nominated for awards – the world needs to see and hear this.

If you haven’t read The Hate U Give novel, I would be curious to hear what you thought of the movie, so please leave a comment below.

I will say this adaptation was pretty accurate to the book. No book to movie adaptation will ever be exact – but this was pretty close and I loved it.

Audiobook Review: ‘Ready Player One’

Let me start off by saying: Ready Player One as a book is WAY better than the movie.

I unfortunately (or fortunately?) saw the movie first, thought it was just okay, but thankfully my friend said the book was different and better, and, trusting her opinion, I decided to listen to the audiobook of Ready Player One. WHAT A DIFFERENCE.

Title: Ready Player One
Author: Ernest Cline
Rating: 5/5 stars

Movie Review: ‘Every Day’

After hearing they were making David Leviathan’s novel Every Day into a movie, I knew it was finally time to read the book that had been sitting on my shelf for ages before going to see the movie. (You can read my book review over here!) Immediately after finishing the book, I needed to see it that night – I was so excited! I’m no movie critic, but here are a few thoughts I had about the movie – I do discuss differences between the movie and the book, so this will have minor spoilers for both the book and the movie. I bolded and underlined a major spoiler so please skip that if you don’t want to be spoiled!

A wakes up in a different persons body every day – always someone the same age, never the same person twice. A is okay with being a different person every day until they meet Rhiannon, a girl who makes them want for more in life. This movie felt like it moved quickly without a dull moment.

Overall? I liked the book more then the movie. Don’t get me wrong – the movie was enjoyable and if you were a fan of the book I think it’s worth seeing. But it isn’t a movie that I would want to see again – once was enough. (Meanwhile with a movie like Love, Simon (I saw an advanced screening) or even Black Panther, I want to see both of those 230480293 times.)
