‘Almost Famous’ @ Jacobs Theatre: NYC (12/11/22)

A rare Sunday evening performance of Almost Famous – since I was already in the city I knew I wanted to catch an evening show so what better to see than my comfort show, Almost Famous!

This was my 5th time seeing Almost Famous, but my first time since it officially opened on November 3rd, 2022! I’m glad I could see the show again in its final form. I last saw it on November 2nd, so at that point I felt like things were pretty set and I don’t think I noticed any changes since then (but it has been over a month since I saw the show!)

I’m going to try and be as honest and open in my reviews as I can. Please note these are my personal opinions and I’m always open to discussions!

Show Name: Almost Famous
Show Type: Musical
Location: Jacobs Theatre, NYC
Date Seen: Sunday, December 11, 2022 @ 8PM

🎸✌🏻 This show gets better every time I see it. This cast is so strong and works together so flawlessly. You can tell they really care about each other even behind the scenes. I know this show so well now that I know most of the lines which is fun.

If you’re a fan of the Almost Famous movie, I would recommend checking out this musical! It’s been a while since I last saw the movie so I haven’t compared it directly in my mind, but the plot is similar – just with some added elements and changes to work for the stage. Or if you’re a fan of historical fiction set in the 1970s (which I am) that focuses on music (also me) – this is the show for you.

I don’t have much to add since the previous times I had seen this show – I love the cast. I love the story line. The music has really grown on me and I can’t wait for the cast recording to be released in March 2023! There are a few songs on streaming platforms now and I’m listening to them on repeat.

With a lottery win, we started in the rear left orchestra, but during intermission moved a few rows up in the center orchestra since there were empty seats and we had a tall person blocking our view for Act 1! Still, not bad seats for lottery prices.

Fifth time must be the charm because I was finally able to secure a “newspaper” this time! It’s the “issue” of “Rolling Stone” that William has his article published in. The inside of the newspaper is actually all just filler space, only the front/back covers and inside pages have any content but it’s still cool to finally have a piece of Almost Famous to take home with me. I’ve wanted one since the first time I saw the show!

Unfortunately as I walked out of the theatre it was snowing (!!!) so there really was no stage door playbill signing. I saw Solea and Casey walk out but they didn’t stop and since the weather was so bad I didn’t want to bother them. You win some, you lose some – that’s what makes stage door an experience, you never know what, if anything, will happen!

I’m still so happy I could see this show again and finally get a newspaper. I will cherish this piece of Almost Famous.

Have you ever seen the movie Almost Famous?
What do you think of it?
