‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’ @ Lyric Theatre: NYC (11/13/22)

This weekend was insanly busy for me. I went to a concert Saturday night (Walk The Moon!), went to bed at 3am and was up and at a Broadway show by 2pm the next day, I don’t know how either. BUT. This wasn’t just any Sunday matinee. This was the final show of the Year 3 cast. I couldn’t miss one last chance to see this cast before graduation.

I’d also like to disclaimer that JKR does *not* profit off of Cursed Child ticket sales based on research, which is why I continue to see it. I assume she still gets a flat rate fee to use the characters, similar to how Universal Studios pays her a flat rate for Harry Potter world, but similarly buying a ticket to Universal does not directly profit JKR. She will get that flat fee regardless of how many Universal tickets are bought.

I’m going to try and be as honest and open in my reviews as I can. Please note these are my personal opinions and I’m always open to discussions!

Show Name: Harry Potter and the Cursed Child
Show Type: Play
Location: Lyric Theatre, NYC
Dates Seen: Sunday, November 13, 2022

⚡️I saw Year 3 a total of…. 17 times. SEVEN.TEEN. TIMES. WHO THE HECK AM I AND WHAT WAS I DOING??!!! Remember how I said I didn’t like the one part version and wasn’t going to see a lot? LOL yeah ok past me, you tried lying to yourself and that didn’t work at ALL. (I’m at 29x total now, so that means I saw the 2 parter 12x, and the single part 17x and I don’t know how man I don’t know. I mean I KNOW. It’s because one part makes it a lot easier to see multiple times!)

I’m not an emotional person but it did hit right in the feels for this last show with this current cast. Most of the adults are staying on, its mainly the “kids” who are leaving. I’m sad I didn’t get a chance to know this cast as deeply as I did with Year 2 – stage door wasn’t a thing for 99.9% of their run. Stage door officially happened for like, 2 weeks during their run. That’s it.

Nadia Brown as the sweet Rose Granger-Weasley – she was in Year 2 as well so I did get to see her a lot then and she’s truly a sweetheart. I love her Rose and will miss her (I miss the 2 part version of Nadia’s Rose more…).

Brady Dalton Richards as the cinnamon roll Scorpius. Scorpius is my favorite character so Brady had big shoes to fill (since I lovedddd Bubba) – and he did fill them. His Scorp really grew on me and I’ll miss him!

James Romney as Albus – I loved him and Brady together, they worked so well together.

Lauren Nicole Cipoletti as Delphi – I remember during Year 2 for the 2 part version when she said she was going on as Delphi for the first (???) time and I bought a ticket immediately to see her. I still remember that show so vividly. She was amazing as Delphi then, and I loved her Delphi in the 1 par version too. I will miss her a lot.

The Godric’s Hollow hugging scene felt extra emotional with James and Brady hugging their “parents” for the last time on stage. My feels.

So the staircase scene at the very end, I reallyyyyy wanted Scorpius and Albus to kiss and Brady did lean EXTRA close to James this time, but no kiss.

And the very end graveyard scene when Steve (Harry Potter) hugs James (Albus), that felt extra emotional too.

There was no “official” stage door but the actors did come out and I was able to see Brady one more time and grabbed a photo and he signed my playbill which I’m happy about, he’s so chill I really like him and wish I could’ve met him about 15 more times!

And we saw Nadia too and were able to get photos with her and she signed playbills. Gonna miss her the most I think!

Then I had to run downtown for another Sunday night Walk The Moon concert so I didn’t have time to dwell on my Cursed Child feelings for too long! And now onto Year 4’s first performance………!!!

Have you ever seen a stage production of Cursed Child? Or read the script?
What do you think of it?
