Broadway Wrap Up: October 2022

I saw 8 Broadway shows in October! It was another busy month with New York Comic Con in the beginning but things are calming down slightly….I say as I’m currently planning a UK trip for the end of November! November’s Wrap Up will hopefully include some West End shows which I’m super excited about!

My favorite show this month was Almost Famous, as you can see by the fact I saw it 3x. Highly recommend seeing it on Broadway! Kpop was also a LOT of fun and I can’t wait to see it again soon!

Almost Famous – October 3

It’s all happening! I was able to attend previews opening night for Almost Famous The Musical on Broadway – this is a movie I love and relate to so I was eager to see the musical adaptation of this beloved movie!

Overall, I thought it was an enjoyable and accurate representation of the movie. If you’re a fan of music, of music journalism, of a heartfelt story set in 1973, I highly recommend checking this show out. I already have tickets to see it twice more in October alone.

Almost Famous – October 12

I will say I enjoyed the show more the second time around, maybe because I knew what was coming and I knew what to expect. If you’re a fan of music and the 1970s music period in particular, I would recommend checking out this show!

This night, Penny Lane actress Solea Pfeiffer stole the show for me. Her voice was so powerful and her acting was on point. She brought the charisma and vibes of Penny Lane to the stage. She’s one to keep your eye on!

Kpop – October 13

Calling all Kpop fans! There is a new show that just opened on Broadway called – you guessed it – KPOP The Musical! It’s about….Kpop – and I was able to attend the first preview performance thanks to TodayTix’s digital rush!

I have to say, this is the most fun I’ve had at a Broadway show in a long time! If you’re a music or Kpop fan in general you’re going to love this show! As I will now be putting it, this is the cheapest way you’ll ever see a Kpop show – and probably the closest you’ll ever be, since Circle in the Square is a pretty tiny venue with a 680 seat capacity.

Into the Woods – October 16

One of my favorite things about seeing a Broadway show multiple times is getting to see a new cast in the roles I already know and love! While I miss the original cast, this cast is also phenomenal and I highly recommend going to see this classic story.

Stephanie J. Block is a stand out as the Baker’s Wife. Playing opposite her as the Baker is her real life husband, Sebastian Arcelus. There’s something special knowing these two are playing a married couple on stage but also married in real life.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child – October 23

I honestly didn’t plan to see Cursed Child again before cast change day in November, but when I learned they started doing stage door again recently I was like, “…..whelp guess I need to go back!” and entered the lottery and won immediately so HERE WE ARE BACK AT THE LYRIC THEATRE!

The highlight of this show as obviously the stage dooring experience! Of course the weather couldn’t hold up and it started to rain, but I brought my big umbrella so it was all good. I’m so glad I could finally meet the Year 3 cast after 16x seeing them!!!

Almost Famous – October 24

Almost Famous Round 3! Unexpectedly had a bunch of understudies on, including Broadway debut for Andrew Poston who played the lead role of William Miller! It was great to see some new faces in roles for my 3rd time seeing this show. This performance had Andrew Poston making his Broadway debut in the role of William Miller! Having seen this show 2x already I felt like I was in a good place to judge – and let me tell you, Andrew did amazing in this role.

After the performance I was able to catch Cameron Crowe in the lobby and say hi and grab a quick photo with him!! He’s very kind.

Stranger Sings – October 30

What better way to spend Halloween weekend than seeing off-Broadway show Stranger Sings – a musical parody of – you guessed it – Stranger Things! I love Stranger Things so when I heard about this parody musical and saw TodayTix had $37 rush tickets, I figured it was worth a watch! While this wasn’t the greatest show ever, it was a lot of fun. If you’re a Stranger Things fan and looking for a musical parody of it, I recommend grabbing rush tickets from TodayTix app for $37 – its worth seeing for that price.

MJ – October 31

I’m really glad I finally saw this show. While I’m not a huge MJ fan, I can appreciate his music and all but that’s about it, I will say this show was incredibly well done. The choreography, the singing, the staging – everything about this production is top notch! The entire cast is fantastic in what they do.

Myles Frost won the 2022 Tony for Best Actor in a Musical and I can tell you, he completely deserved that Tony. Myles personifies Michael Jackson – its incredible how well he does it. I was blown away by his performance.
