‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’ @ Lyric Theatre: NYC (10/23/22)

I honestly didn’t plan to see Cursed Child again before cast change day in November, but when I learned they started doing stage door again recently I was like, “…..whelp guess I need to go back!” and entered the lottery and won immediately so HERE WE ARE BACK AT THE LYRIC THEATRE!

I’d also like to disclaimer that JKR does *not* profit off of Cursed Child ticket sales based on research, which is why I continue to see it. I assume she still gets a flat rate fee to use the characters, similar to how Universal Studios pays her a flat rate for Harry Potter world, but similarly buying a ticket to Universal does not directly profit JKR. She will get that flat fee regardless of how many Universal tickets are bought.

I’m going to try and be as honest and open in my reviews as I can. Please note these are my personal opinions and I’m always open to discussions!

Show Name: Harry Potter and the Cursed Child
Show Type: Play
Location: Lyric Theatre, NYC
Dates Seen: Sunday, October 23, 2022

⚡️ We had a Draco Malfoy understudy – Ben Horner! This is my first time seeing a Draco understudy for Year 3. This is my 16th time seeing Year 3 (how!?!??!?!?) and 28th time overall 🥲 I liked Ben as Draco, it was nice to see someone different in the role, that’s what I’m here for these days!

I was wondering if Scorpius would still jump into Draco’s arms, I know Aaron Bartz Draco always has Scorpius jump but I couldn’t be sure – but yup, Brady jumped into Ben’s arms and Ben let out an audible “oof” hahaha it was so sweet!!!

So at the very end when Scorpius and Albus are talking on the staircase and Scorpius hugs Albus and Albus is like, “I thought we didn’t hug?” then they stare into each others eyes. Today I whispered, “And kiss.” and honestly if Brady and James decided to have the characters kiss for the final show on November 13th, I would literally scream, but also please I hope they do it PLEASE Y’ALL WHAT CAN THEY DO?! FIRE YOU!? I THINK NOT pls just make it canon I CAN DREAM CAN’T I!??!!? Please. Thanks xoxo😘 🏳️‍🌈

Alright so the highlight of this show as obviously the stage dooring experience! Of course the weather couldn’t hold up and it started to rain, but I brought my big constellations umbrella so it was all good.

I’m so glad I could finally meet the Year 3 cast after 16x seeing them!!!

Brady Dalton Richards (Scorpius Malfoy) came out first and was soooo incredibly sweet wow I love him why haven’t I gotten to meet him 16x by now I am sad but also I love him.

Then Ben Horner came out and I was like let’s take a picture with everyone!!! So I did, I really enjoyed his Draco.

Edward James Hyland came out because as per pre-COVID, he literally always comes out and asks where you’re from, ahhhh some things never change!!! He signed inside my playbill even though the outside was dry since I was under an umbrella….

Jax Jackson came out I WAS SO HAPPY TO FINALLY MEET JAX! Jax’s Scorpius is the softest Scorpius and I’m so glad I was finally able to tell Jax that! Jax said the Year 4 Scorpius is really good, so I look forward to seeing Erik Peterson as Scorpius – and Jax is staying on as understudy. Jax also commented on the constellations on the underside of my umbrella so that was fun. (Jax doesn’t use pronouns which is why I say Jax instead of a pronoun many times.)

Angela Reed (Ginny Potter) also came out to sign quickly, she said she walked out and forgot stage door was a thing LOL bless her, forgot to grab a photo with her.

And last but not least we have queen Nadia Brown (Rose Granger-Weasley)! She came up and recognized us which was so nice and makes me so happy, I missed her a lot and she’s so incredibly kind! A true QUEEN!

And then it was time to go home. I don’t know if I’ll see Cursed Child again before November 13th, not sure I’ll have *time* to but maybe. Or maybe I’ll just stage door again. ONLY TIME WILL TELL! ONLY 3 WEEKS LEFT OF YEAR 3 I’M EMO!!!! 🖤🥲💀

Have you ever seen a stage production of Cursed Child? Or read the script?
What do you think of it?

  1. I recently went to see it in my city for the first time and I really enjoyed it! I never bothered reading the script until after I watched the play because I wanted to see how well the actors brought these characters to life. I just really enjoyed their interpretations and of course, the production itself was fantastic 😄

    1. I’m so glad you were able to see this show on stage, which is how its meant to see imo! The script is just that, a script, and doesn’t bring it to life at all. I’m glad you enjoyed it and I agree its a magical production and so well done! ^_^
