‘The Bodyguard’ by Katherine Center – Audiobook Review

I’ve been seeing nothing but glowing reviews about this book since it’s release in July. I finally got around to picking it up for myself and I didn’t believe everyone when they said it was good. And boy was I wrong – because this book was AMAZING!

Title: The Bodyguard
Author: Katherine Center
Series: Standalone
Genres: Romance, Contemporary

Goodreads Summary

Hannah Brooks is a trained bodyguard – but you wouldn’t know that by looking at her. People usually assume she’s the nanny and that’s the entire reason she’s good at being a bodyguard – nobody suspects her to be threatening. She typically guards business corporate people the general public doesn’t care about if they pass them on the street. But when she’s assigned to guard movie star Jack Stapleton, everything changes. Everyone knows Jack’s face. And Jack actually has stalkers.

Jack’s mom is sick and when she’s sent home for recovery, she wants both her sons to join her on the family ranch – which means Hannah is promoted to fake girlfriend/bodyguard status as to not cause any unnecessary stress for Jack’s mom.

This story was fun from the first page to the last! This takes the “fake dating” troupe to an entirely new level and I loved it!

Hannah is a level headed woman who is good at her job and good at keeping her cool under all types of pressure, it’s literally her job and she loves it. But Jack knows just how to make Hannah question what it is she’s doing. I loved their dynamic, it always felt easy going and relaxed. Jack’s parents are the loveliest people and Hannah is quickly accepted by them. This book was so comforting and made me feel so good, I never wanted to put it down!

Of course there are some conflicts with Hannah’s co-workers included her ex, who she has to work with, and ex best friend, who slept with her ex, and also has to work with. Jack isn’t without his flaws as well including a past trauma that still haunts him.

Since this is fake dating and friends to lovers, it takes until the 80% mark for any romance to happen, which was honestly okay by me. Even when it does happen, this book is not spicy at all. I’d give this a high PG-13 rating at most. I wasn’t here just for the on page romance though, I was here for the feelings and the feels delivered!

I loved this audiobook narration! The narrator, Patti Murin, has such a pleasant and easy to listen to voice. I ended up on 2.75x speed since she was so easy to listen to! I don’t think you’d be missing out if you didn’t listen, but it was a joy to listen to this one!

My Rating:

This is getting 5 stars based on vibes and comfort read value alone. Such a perfect little rom-com story with fake dating and friends to lovers. If you’re looking for hot and steamy, look elsewhere, but if you want a fun story that may be one of my favorites of the year, listen to the hype. It’s not wrong. This book is wonderful and feels like a warm hug.
