Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.
This weeks theme is: 2021 Releases I Was Excited to Read But Didn’t Get To
There are SO MANY BOOKS I wanted to read in 2021 but sadly there is a limited amount of time I can use for reading each day. Conveniently I have a Goodreads shelf of 2021 releases. Having a shelf also helps me prioritize some of them in this new year or remove them if they no longer interest me.
These are a few I REALLY wanted to read but didn’t get to:

Chain of Iron (The Last Hours, #2)– Nobody talk to me about the fact I haven’t read Chain of Iron. To be fair, when I learned Book 3 was pushed back to November 2022, that made me in no rush to read this…. I’ll read it sometime this year!
Down Comes the Night – There was such HYPE surrounded this one and I just…never got to it. I feel like it could be hit or miss for me but I want to give Allison Saft a try.
Counting Down with You -I saw/met Tashie Bhuiyan at YALLFest in November and she’s the sweetest! I have an arc of her upcoming book A Show For Two, but really want to read her debut first!
The Infinity Courts (The Infinity Courts, #1) – This one seems right up my alley but I’ve heard mixed things and knowing it was going to be a series put me off from reading it. I would still like to get to it this year!
Hot British Boyfriend – I remember how excited I was for this contemporary and then…I didn’t read it. I feel like it’ll be a good read around Valentine’s Day so I’m planning to put this on my February TBR!

Never Saw You Coming – I loved Erin Hahn’s book More Than Maybe and while this one is very different, I’ve heard good things and would like to read it!
Once Upon a Broken Heart – Nobody talk to me I’m sad I haven’t read this yet. I kept saying I wanted to reread the Caraval series before getting to this…sigh. 2022 goals!!!
Lakesedge (World at the Lake’s Edge, #1) – This one seems super spooky and I’ve seen it compared to House of Hollow (which I loved) but its Audible only, which is stopped me from listening to/reading this sooner. Also knowing its a series, I may wait until closer to Book 2 release before reading…
All of Us Villains (All of Us Villains, #1) – I have no idea what this is about but I see it everywhere so I’m just going to give it a try one of these days!
Gilded (Gilded, #1) – I have a love/hate relationship with Marissa Meyer books. I loved the Cinder series…but that’s all I’ve enjoyed by her. I’m willing to give her one last chance and then I’m just not going to try any of her books anymore. Also, I thought this was a standalone. Why is this a series… 😦
What 2021 books did you hope to read but just ran out of time?
Link your post below and I’ll check it out!

I really enjoyed The Infinity Courts, especially the last quarter. I cannot wait for the sequel!

Hope you’ll enjoy all of these! I haven’t read any of the Last Hours books yet, but I hope to binge them in time for the release of the final book 🙂

Thank you! That’s definitely a good plan. I originally read Chain of Gold right before Chain of Iron came out….but then never read Chain of Iron, so I failed in my own plan LOL. So reading them all before the final book is really smart!

I enjoyed The Lunar Chronicles series, but I haven’t read anything else by Meyer. Her other books just don’t hold the same appeal to me for some reason. I hope you enjoy GILDED and all these others!
Happy TTT!

I completely understand that. I loved Lunar Chronicles, but tried Renegades and it just didn’t hold my attention, and I DNF-ed Instant Karma. I’m willing to give her books one last chance but then I think I’m done and just going to appreciate Lunar Chronicles and thats it. Thank you!!

I LOVED Counting Down with You! So awesome you got to meet Tashie and have the arc of her next book. Hot British Boyfriend was also a great read. Definitely recommend for V day. OUABH was also on my list today 😅 you’re not alone there

I’m so glad to hear you loved it, it sounds sooo good and I can’t wait to finally read it. And yes, it was nice to meet her and hear her speak on panels, thats what really pushed me to want to read her book finally! And glad to hear that about Hot British Boyfriend 🙂 And I feel like OUABH is on a lot of peoples lists haha, we all need a support group LOL

Why is this literally me with Once Upon A Broken Heart 💀💀
I will probably be waffling on whether or not I should pick up Caraval first for the next CENTURY lmao

I have Gilded on my TBR too. I’m in the same boat with Meyer: loved the Cinder series, but I didn’t enjoy Heartless.

I actually completely forgot about Heartless! That was one I did like, but I DNF-ed Instant Karma and read Renegades but never finished the series….so yeah, one last try with Gilded and I’ll see how I feel. Hope we both enjoy it!

Great list!! Down Comes the Night is one that somehow escaped my radar completely for most of 2021, but I ended up buying a copy a month or two ago and I’m really looking forward to reading it. 😀

Down Comes the Night is one I heard a lot about around release, then nothing, but towards the end of the year I saw it pop up some lists and remembered it again! I hope we both enjoy it! 😀
