2022 Goals

I’ve seen a couple of posts with other bloggers looking back at 2021 goals and writing some for 2022. I didn’t write a 2021 goals post, but I am going to start with one for 2022 and hope this guides me in the new year to come!

Read at least 1 physical and 1 audiobook I own each month.

I’ve realized I own a lot of books, and yet I keep buying more, both physical and audiobooks. My goal is to read at least 1 physical book and 1 audiobook I already own each month. My Audible and Libro.fm libraries aren’t huge, but they have unread books and I would like to be able to mark those as read! And I want to be able to unhaul physical books if I decide I don’t like them or won’t reread them.

I am still subscribed to Fairyloot and Illumicrate but I think I’m going to be skipping or even putting my subscriptions on pause in 2022 – I’ll see how it goes. I’ve already skipped January’s Illumicrate as I didn’t care for the book (and based on hints, I will want both Feb & March!)

Unhaul books I’m not planning to reread or didn’t enjoy.

As mentioned above, I have books sitting on my shelves that I haven’t read and I can’t unhaul because “what if I want to read it one day?!” – so I need to read it and decide if its a keeper or a donate book.

Read backlist & current books.

I’m going to try and read at least 1 backlist book on my TBR as well as 1 current release on my TBR each month. I’m going to try and incorrporate this into my monthly TBR posts too.

Let myself DNF more books if I’m not enjoying them at any point.

I’ve been pretty good with DNF-ing books in 2021, I DNF almost a book a month if not more, but I’ve let myself read further than I should into books I know will be 1 or 2 star. I should read less 1 or 2 star books – if I’m not enjoying it, DNF and move on!

Goodreads Goal: 100 books

I’m going to keep my Goodreads goal the same I’ve had it the past 2 years. 100 books seems to be my sweet spot so I’m hoping I can keep pass and read the same amount (or more!) in 2022.

Remove books from my “want to read shelf” on Goodreads.

I’m guilty of adding books to my “want to read” shelf and then never looking at them again. At time of writing, I have 560 books on my want to read shelf. I do not want to read 560 books. I need to slim this down to books I’m no longer interested in reading.

Read what I want to read and don’t listen to the hype.

I’m guilty of succumbing to the hype around books – and most of the time, they don’t live up to it for me. I’m going to seriously read the summary and reviews before deciding if I want to pick up a book just because everyone is talking about it. I’m going to read what *I* want to read and not just because everyone is talking about it.

What are some of your goals for 2022?

    1. Thank you! It feels good to write them down so I have something to stick to in the coming year.

This year I read a book called Decluttering at the Speed of Life and it really helped me see items I own differently, not just books but other stuff too. I highly recommend it, I found it very useful!

  1. These are excellent goals! I really relate to your goal about not listening to the hype, especially. I used to request ARCs based solely off of hype ALL THE TIME and learned the hard way that it was a bad idea. I still have so many e-ARCs of books (especially YA fantasy books) from 2019 & 2020 that I knew I shouldn’t have requested, but the FOMO hit me and I did it anyways, and then surprise surprise… just because they were popular didn’t mean they held my attention at all. 😂 I’ve thankfully reached the point now where it’s easier to ignore the FOMO and tell myself “no, Destiny, you can borrow it from the library or buy a copy on sale later…” and it has helped a lot lol!

Good luck with all of your goals! ♥

    1. Thank you! Yeah, I made that mistake too of requesting all the arcs and then I realized….why? I honestly don’t have time to read them all and if I’m still really interested, I’m sure my library will have a copy I can borrow regardless!

Let’s hope 2022 is a great year…for reading at least LOL no promises with anything else haha!
