Top Ten Tuesday: Halloween Freebie – Spooky Books

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

This weeks theme is: Halloween Freebie! I’m going to talk about ~spooky~ themed books!

This week is a Halloween Freebie! So I’m going to talk about some spooky books. Half of these are books on my TBR that I still need to read, and the other half are spooky reads I love and highly recommend! Remember, just because October is almost over doesn’t mean you have to stop reading spooky autumn feeling books.

Bonus: I even have a Goodreads shelf dedicated to spooky reads which helps when I’m in the mood for something spooky!

Spooky Books I loved:

House of Hollow – I read this as an arc in the springtime and was immediately in love with it! Its definitely spooky and has autumn vibes and this is the perfect time of year to pick it up if you haven’t yet!

Cemetery Boys – Cemetery Boys is set in the days leading up to Día de Muertos, Day of the Dead, which is November 1st, so its literally PERFECT for the end of October/early November!! I’m so glad I picked this up at the end of October, its the perfect spooky mood and perfect Latinx/Transgender rep!

The Witch Haven – I loved this witchy book about sisterhood and friendship. Set in 1911 New York City, its a murder mystery filled with magic and you never know who you can trust. I had a lot of fun with this recent release.

The Devil Makes Three – The title ‘The Devil Makes Three’ already tips you off this is going to be a horror story and it doesn’t lie. It’s creepy as heck and I recommend reading at night for maximum horror effect – don’t worry, its not TOO much horror, it is still young adult after all!

The Dead House – I first read this way back in 2016 before I even started blogging but I still think of this book around this time of year. Dawn Kurtagich is a master of horror and I recommend her other books as well. I listened to this story via audiobook and I highly recommend it – the narrators were on point and the voices really made this story spooky and creepy!

Spooky Books on my TBR:

If We Were Villains – This has been on my TBR for literal years. I keep meaning to read it in the fall and keep….not doing that. But THIS WILL BE MY YEAR! I will read it! I have the audiobook on hold at my library and its been a long wait but hopefully early November I’ll get to this bad boy.

All The Bad Apples – This has been on my TBR since 2019 and its still held my interest. It has witches and magical realism and a mystery/thriller plot and its sapphic. It sounds like such an underrated book and I need to give it a try for myself!

The Coldest Girl in Cold Town – I was sold at Holly Black. I’ve only read her Cruel Prince series and still want to work my way through her backlog and this seems like the perfect place to start.

Lakesedge – I’ve seen this recommended for people who loved House of Hollow (and did I ever love that one!) so I’ve had this on my radar for a little while, and it finally releases the end of September! Sounds spooky and thats all I need to know.

The Ex Hex – A witchy romance? Heck yeah sign me up!

What are your favorite spooky books or books on your TBR?

    1. I hope you enjoy House of Hollow! I don’t think end of October has to mean end of spooky reads – I still have so many I want to read, I’ll be reading well into November too! And yes, I heard the comparison and am hopeful I’ll enjoy Lakesedge~

    1. I’m so glad to hear you’re loving it, I can’t wait to pick it up! And I’m also glad to hear that about Coldtown – I hear nothing but good things so its time I finally see for myself what all the hype is about! Thank you~

  1. I have a bunch of spooky reads to get to yet (and more thanks to this weeks topic) so I’m going to take your advice and keep reading them even though I’m almost out of time in October. 🙂

    The Witch Haven sounds awesome.

    1. I know the feeling, I’m adding more to my TBR too thanks to this weeks topic! Yesss, spooky month can continue on! Especially into November, Nov still feels very autumn-y to me.

Hope you enjoy The Witch Haven as much as I did 🙂
